How To
Step-by-step guide to run a migration.
Before you start
- Make sure both mailboxes support IMAP.
- If the provider requires 2FA, use an App Password.
- Check storage limits on the destination mailbox.
- For best results, avoid changing mailbox contents during migration.
Create a job
- Login and open Dashboard.
- Fill in Source and Destination credentials.
- Click Migrate.
- If payment is required, you’ll see a Pay button on Dashboard.
How to find IMAP settings
You need your mailbox IMAP server (host), port and encryption type (SSL/TLS or STARTTLS). This information is provided by your email provider.
Fastest way: check your mail client
- Thunderbird: Account Settings → Server Settings → Server Name (host), Port, Connection Security.
- Outlook: File → Account Settings → Server Settings (or ask your provider; Outlook often hides IMAP details).
- Apple Mail: Settings → Accounts → Server Settings.
Provider help pages
Search in Google: "IMAP settings" + your email domain/provider
(example: IMAP settings example.com).
Typical values
- IMAPS (SSL/TLS): port 993
- IMAP + STARTTLS: port 143
Tip: In PostMaster we run a preflight IMAP login check before payment, so you’ll know immediately if the settings are wrong.
During migration
- Dashboard updates automatically while a job is running.
- You can open the Job page to see details and live log tail.
- Migration can take a lot of time. You can browse other pages, close browser or even login from another computer to monitor migration or create Job.
- If a job fails, check the log — common causes: wrong password, blocked IMAP, quota, TLS issues.
After completion
- You will receive an email report with summary and download link for full log.
- When the job completes successfully, we also include an invoice link.
